Why is the Philippines perceived to be dangerous always?

I went to Makati with friends last Xmas 2010 and we're impressed with the clean roads, cosmopolitan business district, gorgeous malls and friendly people. I can say that it was even better than the business distirct of Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok. Do you agree?
